Brute Force iPhone Passcode Hack is Not Legit Says Apple Researchers

Apple distresses - iOS vulnerability!

Co-founder of cybersecurity firm "Hackers House," Matthew Hickey revealed that an iPhone could be unlocked using a virtual keyboard attempting multiple passcode combinations.

He further added, using the 'brute-force' technique it is entirely possible to evade the built-in-security of iOS including its latest version iOS 11.3.

Unlike an ordinary Brute Force attack, he recommended using all the possible ‘6-digit password’ combinations, which incorporates a series of characters beginning from 000000 to 999999.

This cracking method can bypass Apple security against 'wrong passcode' entry, eventually unlocking the device once the right combination is entered.

He said that doing this would trigger an interrupt request, which takes over all other relevant functions including the erase feature, i.e., deleting data after ten incorrect password attempts followed by device locking.

All claims dismissed!

Concerning the security vulnerabilities in iOS, Apple recently issued a clarification bypassing all reports claiming to have found a technique to guess iPhone passcode using the brute force methodology, regardless of the hard limit of iOS.

They further added that the security voids were, in reality, an instance of wrong testing.

Apple's announcement was later upheld by Hickey who then altered his statement in the following tweet saying that the pins in the iPhone don't work in all cases as initially assumed.

He said that "It appears the pins don't generally go to the SEP on a few occasions (because of pocket dialing/excessively quick information sources)."

So, even though it "looks" like pins are being tried they aren't generally sent. Thus they don't tally, and the gadgets enroll fewer counts than obvious @Apple,".

Apple to adopt new techniques:

Apple is planning to reduce all USB-related devices exploits obsolete with the use of its new software update.

USB Restriction Mode” incorporated in its 'iOS 12' will disable all USB connections using hard wire if the set passcode is not entered in the prescribed time.

In current conditions, the predetermined time stands at one hour.

According to Apple, this newly added feature will prevent hackers and cracking devices from force unlocking iPhones to get access to a person's equipment -- and their data.
