Android 10 Q: Here’s What You Can Expect

Believe it or not, Android is one of the best mobile operating systems, which is way more intuitive and user-friendly than its competitors. Now that it has strings attached to Google, the tech giant leaves no stone unturned in making it better with time. After gaining loads of admiration over Android Pie, Google seems to have pulled the socks up to cater the expectations from its Android 10 aka Android Q, which may be called with a different name.

With a lot of rumors about the upcoming Android 10, it is hard to find a piece of trustworthy information that can clear the blurred image. To help you with, we’ve researched to find out the features of Android 10 Q that you can expect.

What Is New In Android 10 Q?

With Android 10 coming in, there are a lot of expectations and forethoughts about the new operating system. Although, there's been no official announcement for any feature. However, we’ve dug around to gather the most possible features that Android 10 Q may have:

1. System-Wide Dark Mode: The much awaited system-wide dark mode may be introduced as per the anticipations over multiple websites. According to XDA developers, there would be a new option in the Display settings named as ‘Set Dark Mode’. However, the feature is nowhere to be seen on Android Q Beta 1. It may be due to the fact that they’re still working on it to float it in the final release.  

2. Uplifted Privacy: Security is a foremost concern when it comes to any new technology. Fortunately, Google seems to keep the same privacy feature that it rolled out with Android Pie. With that on board, you would be able to choose whether or not you wish to share your location

3. Changed Settings Panel: With new Android Q, Google is said to be changing the Settings Panel API. This will have an effect as it would display key system settings right in the context of the app. You would be able to experience these changes on the Slices feature that came with Android P. With new settings panel, it would look similar to a floating UI that can be opened from an app to show system settings and toggles.

4. Desktop Mode: There’s no ambiguity that smartphones have made life easier and diminished your dependency on a computer. However, there’s still a ton of reasons you need a PC for. Google seems to have understood this need by introducing a complete Desktop Mode in Android Q, according to sources. The Desktop Mode would look similar to Samsung Dex and Huawei’s Projection Mode. With this mode on, you would get a PC-like experience that would render a standard desktop and full sized applications.

5. Sensor Control: Now that Android Pie features a lockdown mode, where you can disable the fingerprint sensor. However, Android Q may add another layer of sensor controlling that would allow you to do a Super Lockdown that shuts down every sensor on your device. The feature includes a ‘Sensor Off’ toggle button that puts your smartphone into ‘Flight Mode’ and disables all the sensors on your device. Also, this feature may also allow you to control Accelerometer and Gyroscope that are not visible.

6. Built-in Screen Recorder: Android Q may also come up with an inbuilt screen recorder tool similar to the one in iOS. It was found in the leaked build that you can access the built-in screen recorder by long pressing the screenshot button in the power menu. You can find it in the build after a flag named name settings_screenrecord_long_press.

7. No More Android Beam: Android Beam is a file sharing tool, which you may not find in Android Q. It is possible that Google has sensed its popularity and decided to say goodbye in the Q. However, you may expect a new file sharing system that Google is said to be working according to rumors. If that’s true, expect something powerful like Apple’s AirDrop and Nearby Sharing of Windows 10, which may also be available on Chromebook.

8. Lockdown: Now that every change isn’t good, there is news that Android Q might come with several restrictions. With the new OS, if you buy a locked device from a specific carrier, they would be able to stop you from using other SIM cards of other specific carriers through a created lists of ‘allowed’ and ‘restricted’ carriers. Not welcomed, right!

9. More Customization: Android Q is expected to come up with more customization options onboard. Now that you are able to change the background theme on Android Pie, Android Q may add some more customizations. According to a leaked Android build, there may be two new fonts, and multiple icon shapes like  Teardrop, Square and Squircle with many new accent colors named black, blue and green.

10. Gesture Control: You may expect a back buttonless navigation in Android Q as Google seems to experiment with Android Pie’s gestures and improving the fluidity of the ‘last app’ transition animation.

Android Q Release Date: When Can I Expect It?

If you take a look at Google’s release schedule for the past couple of years, you would find a lot of similarities. Believing that, it may not be much different even this time unless there’s a sound reason for the delay.

Although, Google has already released the first developer preview and you can expect the next preview at the Google I/O 2019 that is scheduled to be held on May 7th. Now that Google has already decided on releasing the final version after floating the six beta versions, you may expect the stable Android 10 Q on or before August 6.

Overall, Android 10 is expected to unveil a lot of interesting features that were much awaited. However, it may take a little longer for you to get your hands on it as Google plans to introduce six beta versions before it finally hits the final stable version of Q.
