10 way to “Fix WiFi Doesn't Have a Valid IP Configuration”

Method 1 – Fix by resetting the TCP/IP

This is the simplest way to fix this issue using the netsh command. Follow the below steps to fix the issue:

  1. Hold Windows Key + X on your keyboard simultaneously and from then select ‘Command Prompt (Admin)’ from the menu.

  2. As shown in the image, after Command Prompt opens, enter the following command:
    ‘netsh winsock reset’ and hit enter.

    Now type ‘netsh int ip reset’ and hit enter.

  3. Now you need to close the Command Prompt and restart your PC.
  4. As reported by most users, this method usually provides a patch to the IP related issues, but do remember if you are using static IP address you will want to set it up again.

If in case the above commands don’t work, you can try these commands too:

  • ipconfig /release
  • ipconfig /flushdns
  • ipconfig /renew

Method 2 – Fix by changing wireless passwords and SSID

In some case, this method successfully provided the fix to ‘Wi-Fi doesn’t have valid IP configuration’ just by making changes to the wireless SSID and password of the modem.

In order to achieve that, you need to connect your PC and modem with the Ethernet cable, following this, you can now access your modem's configuration and easily modify your wireless password and SSID. Method 4 – Fix by setting up your IP address manually

While you get connected to a wireless network you usually get an IP address. This process is accomplished using DHCP, but then again if there is an issue with DHCP configuration, you might receive an IP configuration error.

In the normal case, you need to assign an IP address for the device manually. Follow the below steps to do that:

  1. Hold Windows Key + X simultaneously and select Network Connections from the menu.
  2. Right click on the wireless network and select Properties from the drop-down.

  4. When the Properties window pops up, select the option that says ‘Use the following IP address’ and type in the IP address, Default gateway, and Subnet mask.

Method 5 – Fix by changing the number of DHCP users

Certain routers are usually restricted to 50 DHCP users, and in some cases, this can be the reason behind the error message ‘Wi-Fi doesn’t have valid IP configuration’. To increase the DHCP users manually and fix the issue you need to access your router manually.

Method 6 – Fix by performing a Clean boot

As claimed by many users the problem was fixed after performing a Clean boot. With the use of Clean boot, you disable all the third-party services and applications that might have been causing a problem to your wireless connection. Follow the steps to perform a clean boot:

  1. Hold the Windows Key + R on the keyboard together and type in 'msconfig.' Hit OK or press enter.

  2. After the 'System Configuration' window shows up, choose Selective startup and unmark Load startup items.

  7. Restart your computer.

After restarting your computer check if the issue is resolved. If the problem doesn’t appear, you might want to enable the disabled services and applications and find the one that is causing this issue so you can remove it or update it.

Method 7 – Try temporarily disabling your antivirus software

Antivirus software or firewall can often interfere with your Internet connection, and if you’re getting Wi-Fi doesn’t have valid IP configuration error, you might want to temporarily remove your antivirus or firewall.

Method 9 – Fix by Uninstalling wireless adapter driver

Users claim that they managed to fix this problem by uninstalling their wireless adapter driver. To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Press Windows Key + X and choose Device Manager.
  2. When Device Manager opens, locate your wireless device, right-click it and choose Uninstall.

When your PC starts again, Windows 10 will automatically install the default wireless driver. If the default driver works well, you can continue using it, but if there are any problems you might have to download the latest driver and install it.

Keep in mind that updating your drivers is an advanced procedure. If you’re not careful you can cause permanent damage to your system by downloading the wrong driver version, therefore use extra caution.

Method 10 – Fix by making sure that the security type matches

Sometimes problems with IP configuration can be caused by your security type, so make sure that the security type on your PC matches the security type set by your router.

To do that, simply open your router settings page, visit the wireless section and check what type of security is being used. After that, make sure that your wireless adapter is using the same security type.
